AGS Library Update- A story, be it long or short, usually consists of some basic elements. They are essential to the structure of a story. The most common elements of a story are plot, setting, characters, problem and solution. Story mapping is a strategy that uses a story map to introduce the basic elements of the story. It is a graphic display of the structure of the story and its parts. These story elements are not just randomly arranged in the stories. A story usually develops by following a particular story structure e.g , well developed stories, regardless of their length, always have a beginning usually introducing the setting, character, and plot. Our Applets have been exploring Story Maps. The purpose of the activity is to evaluate the effectiveness of an instructional strategy and the facilitative story mapping. By this students can find a way to record ideas and explore a thought. They used the tool to define themselves. This may help students to discover their own creative abilities. #appleglobalschool #beanapplet #onlinelibrary #storymapping

"Peace will not come out of a clash of arms but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face of odds. Not to believe in the possibility of permanent peace is to disbelieve in the Godliness of human nature".-Mahatma Gandhi We must all renew our commitment to global solidarity. To sustain peace, we must build it every day, in every society, with every woman and man, by working together towards a better common future for all. In a world troubled with conflict, a day dedicated to peace reminds us of Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of Ahimsa or non-violence. It is a United Nations' designated day, established in 1981. In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) voted to call for "non-violence and cease-fire" on world peace day. The UN encourages countries to observe the day by adhering to "24 hours of non-violence". The theme for International Day of Peace 2020 is "Shaping Peace Together." Today people should "celebrate the day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the (COVID-19) pandemic." #appleglobalschool #beanapplet #internationaldayofpeace2020 #worldpeaceday2020 #shapingpeacetogether

The ozone layer, a fragile shield of gas, protects the Earth from the harmful portion of the rays of the sun, thus helping preserve life on the planet. This year, we celebrate 35 years of the Vienna Convention and 35 years of global ozone layer protection. This stratospheric layer shields Earth from most of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. So, when scientists working in the late 1970s discovered that humanity was creating a hole in this protective shield, they raised the alarm. - - - -The hole caused by ozone-depleting gases (ODSs) used in aerosols and cooling, such as refrigerators and air-conditioners –was threatening to increase cases of skin cancer and cataracts, and damage plants, crops, and ecosystems. - A number of commonly used chemicals have been found to be extremely damaging to the ozone layer. Halocarbons are chemicals in which one or more carbon atoms are linked to one or more halogen atoms (fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine). The man-made chemicals that have provided most of the chlorine and bromine for ozone depletion are methyl bromide, methyl chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and families of chemicals known as halons, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). World Ozone Day, held on September 16, celebrates this achievement. It shows that collective decisions and action, guided by science, are the only way to solve major global crises. In this year of the COVID-19 pandemic that has brought such social and economic hardship, the ozone treaties’ message of working together in harmony and for the collective good is more important than ever. The slogan of the day, ‘Ozone for life’, #appleglobalschool #beanapplet #ozoneforlife #worldozoneday

'Show and Tell' is an important part of a child's learning development, as it helps them to organize information and build their confidence. It is also a great way to encourage a child's interest in a particular topic and a chance for children to think out of the box. With the aim of providing an opportunity for our primary Applets to develop effective communication skills and to build their confidence, a virtual ‘show and tell’ activity was organized. They learned and experienced public speaking - a skill a child will use throughout his/her life. Students exhibited their oratorial skills with confidence using a wide variety of props, they spoke on many interesting topics like Best Out of Waste, My Favourite Corner in the House, An Object that can be Recycled, Favourite Animal, My Bucket List, Favourite Bedtime Story, etc, They described the objects with a lot of confidence, facial expressions, and voice modulation. Overall, the show was a spectacular learning experience for the kids! It goes without saying that students’ involvement in individual activity infuses in them originality, self-confidence & self-reliance. The inspiring presentation left no stone unturned to achieve a realistic appraisal of their skills and to discover the power of spoken words. Applets were excited to share their descriptive narration and waited eagerly for their turn to show and tell. Thus, this event helped our Applets to build their social, emotional, and language skills. #appleglobalschool #beanapplet #showandtelltell
