World Biofuel Day is observed every year on 10th August to create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels and to highlight the various efforts made by the Government in the biofuel sector. Important Bio-fuels in India: 1. Bioethanol : Ethanol produced from biomass such as sugar containing materials, like sugarcane, sugar beet, sweet sorghum etc.; starch containing materials such as corn, cassava, rotten potatoes, algae etc.; 2. Biodiesel : a methyl or ethyl ester of fatty acids produced from non-edible vegetable oils, acid oil, used cooking oil or animal fat and bio-oil; Advanced biofuels : Fuels which are produced from agricultural and forestry residues i.e. rice & wheat straw/corn cobs & grasses, algae etc. 3. Drop-in fuels : Any liquid fuel produced from Biomass, agri-residues, wastes such as Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW), Plastic wastes, Industrial wastes etc . which meets the Indian standards for MS, HSD and Jet fuel, in pure or blended form. 4. On 9th Feb, our Grade 2 Applets went on a field trip to The Riverside Farm and Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Center. The Riverside Farm brought the students closer to nature. The Applets took a walk to the river. They got a chance to observe and know from where and how their food comes. They gained greater insight into food and nutrition. At the Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Center, students learnt to make a whirling fan and clap in the air models. They were explained about how the water energy and wind energy are converted to electric energy. In Ags, Taekwondo belt exam was conducted. Applets competed boldly, confidently and gained their belts according to their proficiency.
