Our Grade 6 Applets were invited by the Riverside students of grade 6 to attend a photo exhibition at Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum. The NGO Prabhat Education Foundation, under the guidance of Mr Keshav Chatterjee, works with the children with special needs from some of the very deprived locations of Ahmedabad.
Prabhat's aim is to bring some dignity to the lives of the metally and physically challenged children through specially designed vocational and literacy skills so that they are able to sustain their living later in life.
Our Applets visited the photo-gallery, attended the short film sessions to become aware of the work being done and to know how a volunteer can contribute their time and design specific skills for an individual's need. They also were encouraged to participate in Buddy-Interction activities.
Some of our Applets became quite emotional looking at the difficulties these children go through living their lives every day.
Our Applets' most important take away from today's session was, to build an inclusive society we need to think in terms of 'us being the same' not me and them being different!
