Grade 3 E went on a field trip to Sundarvan and Khoj museum on 8th February. The Applets had a great time at Sundarvan. They saw a variety of birds and had a lovely interaction with the ducks by feeding them with fresh leaves found under the trees. They could experience the atmosphere and the habitat in which the birds, amphibians, reptiles, and small animals like rabbits and squirrels live. Moreover, they gained a lot of knowledge about the snakes in the snake show. They were even asked to feel the skin of the snake which made them very excited. Later, they visited the Khoj museum where in they were taken to the Plastic arena which was very useful for them as they gained information and knowledge about the structure, segregation and recycling process of plastics. In the Soil formation section, the children learnt about the process and components involved in the formation of soil and even got opportunity to observe the structure of soil under a microscope. Our school organised a field trip to kankaria zoo for grade 1 Applets on Saturday, 8th Feb 2020. Early in the morning our young Applets were all ready with their smiles. They happily waved at their parents and expressed that they were looking forward to a fun filled day. The first stop of our field trip was the 'nocturnal animal house'. Students learnt about various nocturnal animals, their natural characteristic behaviour with the help of a video. The house exhibited animals like small cats, tody cats, bats, porcupines, leopard, jackal, hyena, owl, wild cats and other nocturnal animals. Our next stop was the toy train ride in Swarnim express. It circles the lake on a 4.5 km track at a speed of 10 km/hr with a capacity of 150 passengers. Students also took a ride on Jal pari to reach their final destination stop Balvatika. AGS believes that experience is a better teacher than books, and to serve this purpose the school plans frequent field trips for Applets for us to experience and learn with enjoyment. A field trip was planned to the Sarkhej Roza and Shreyas Foundation on 18th January 2020 for the students of Grade 8 and 9. Sarkhej Roza is a historic place located in the Makarba village. It comprises of one of the most elegant and unique architectural complexes of Ahmedabad. It is an example of the early Islamic architectural culture of the region, which fused the Islamic style influences from Persia with indegenous features to form a composite “Indo-Sarcenic” style. Sarkhej Roza was built 500 years ago in the memory of King Ahmed Shah. This venue is the pride of our city and attracts thousands of tourists every year. The second venue was the Shreyas Foundation. The complex comprises of two museums namely- Balayatan & The Art and Performances museum. The Gujarat Art and Performance museum exhibits handmade work of artisans from all over the state. It is a showcase for traditional lifestyle, accessories, clothes and the culture of Gujarat. The Balayatan museum exhibits diverse cultures of the country, and of the world. It is a gallery of medieval lifestyle and currency. All Applets enjoyed the trip and learned immensely from it. - Neil Desai
